Department of Child and Family Studies is an extension of Department of Applied Life Science, "Division of Child and Family Studies", which originated from the Department of Home Economics. We strive to make revolutionary changes, innovation and creation, from "Home Economics", "Applied Life Science" to "Child and Family Studies". Department of Child and Family Studies' continuing growth have always been one of its most attractive features.

(1) Our Master's Program and Executive Master's Program extend the features of applied life science. The program practices the concept of "living designer" on professional fields of childhood development, early childhood education, parenting, family life promotion, family consultation and counseling. We provide students with theoretical and practical experiences. We have built child and family service networks allowing families to improve the quality of family life.

(2) By using interdisciplinary knowledge, the various relationships and contexts that children and adults encounter are examined, including relationships with the family, school, work places, communities and various other socio-cultural relationships. We also explore how people can understand and support each other and handle conflict.

(3) The Master's and Executive Master's Program offers one of the few programs in Taiwan that allows students to have access to child and family experiment facility and resources. The departmental affiliated childcare center, experimental facilities and the connection with government and foundation, are the best resources to provide demonstration, practicum and research for child development and education, family life education, child product industry, and family counseling.

(4) The faculty members of our Master's and Executive Master's Program obtained their Ph.D. degree from related graduate programs in U.S and Germany. Their specialization and profession in the field of child development and family studies have also added on the departmental uniqueness.

(5) In recent years, the department has been actively advocating various international programs, such as having professors and councilors visiting us from United States, Japan, Germany and England. We have developed co-teaching, co-learning and co-research relationship with the department of Human Development and Family Sciences, Oregon State University. We also visited Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences , East China Normal University and Nanjing Normal University with graduate students to broaden their global views.
